Oma Sonia was a holocaust survivor, who experienced Krystallnacht, and the Nazi bombing and occupation of Warsaw. She escaped to the USA in 1940, with the help of the HIAS organization.  Her painting was therapy, to forget the traumatic memories, she often painted uplifting portraits, florals and landscapes in brilliant colors.
